Real- life event experience: 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries Cape Town celebration
On Tuesday evening I was lucky enough to have been asked by my colleagues to go along and work with them at the 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries celebration in Cape Town. The event celebrated the best eateries in the Western Cape and awarded the winners and highly commended recipients in their respective categories.
As my first event experience, it was great! I thoroughly enjoyed liaising with media in the build up to the event and finally getting the chance to meet them personally this week. During the five hours that we were at the venue, we were on our feet and busy with tasks that I found interesting, challenging and fun. I welcomed journalists as they arrived, discussed their interests and possible interviews or story angles, we worked with the photographers to ensure that all the images needed were captured and took notes to caption photographs of all the winners and recipients of highly commended certificates.
Learning the ropes, working behind the scenes and seeing the event come to life after working on it for months is an awesome feeling. The 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries only celebrated the Western Cape winners on Tuesday and next week the Johannesburg celebration will take place in a similar format. The 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards, which celebrates the Top 10 Restaurants in the country, will take place in November and I’m extremely excited to be able to see our team’s and Eat Out’s hard work prevail. I look forward to working at this event next month as I know it will give me valuable experience.
As I love the event side of PR, I am grateful that I was able to attend and experience the celebration. I didn’t mind waking up the morning after with sore legs from all the standing, but I think I still need to get a bit more event fit! I look forward to contributing and planning other campaigns and events in the future as even though it’s hard work and can sometimes involve a lot of stress and pressure, it’s so rewarding in the end to see everyone’s perseverance and hard work come to fruition.
