Hello from the Intern

- March 3, 2016 -

My name is Christelle Kabuka and I am in my third year of studying Public Relations management. I could write some sort of biography detailing my life and where I come from, what I have been up to and what led me to embark in this tumultuous train called the PR Express.

Yes I could, but I won’t… at least not now. Instead, let me explain to you what this blog is about and how it will help you as a current or aspiring PR student (or even if you’re simply interested in knowing more about Public Relations). This isn’t just a “blog section”, consider it as a diary which will give you some insight into the world of public relations – at least from the perspective of an intern.
Being granted the opportunity to work as an intern for one year at MANGO-OMC, I came to realise that students often step into the “real world” without knowing exactly what to expect. The truth is that the PR and Communication industry is a huge ocean where things are constantly moving and where trends are continuously evolving. Taking that into consideration, I can understand why PR students sometimes find that what they have been taught in class is slightly different from what they are faced with once they begin their journey in the working world.

Through this blog I will try to fill the gap between what we know when we leave university and what we are expected to know when entering into the working world. In other words, I will discuss terms, methods, and trends that PR students are usually unfamiliar with when starting their internships. Some do’s and don’ts will also be shared to help you get rid of some bad habits.
I believe that we cannot speak about the advancement of the PR industry without thinking about means to empower current students, that’s why I hope this blog will be a channel through which PR and Communication students will feel empowered and prepared to be the next renowned PR practitioner.

By the end of this journey, I sincerely hope that my posts would have enlightened numerous aspiring PR practitioners about what is coming their way and motivate them to ensure that the PR industry is continuously growing and innovating.
