The 6 essential components of a dream team

Interning at MANGO-OMC has changed my view on many things, including team-work. Before joining the agency, I was quite reluctant to work in a team, as I was of the opinion that individual work is quicker, easier and always produces great end results. This belief changed when I started working with senior staff who provided me with guidance and helped me to grow and acquire great knowledge. This has lead me to draw a line between ordinary teams and dream teams and come up with the 5 types of people that make up a dream team.

  1. A great team leader

Watching Nicole Capper, our MD, has given me a sense of what a great team leader is. First I was amazed at the level of trust that she put in every team member. Supportive and encouraging, she has been setting the foundations for all team members to express themselves and take ownership of every project in which we’ve been involved. This has, in my opinion, appeared to be one of her greatest qualities and the most important quality that a team leader should have.

  1. A technophile

In the current age and with the ever evolving technology, every team should comprise of at least one person that has mastered the digital sphere. Ours is Kerryn, one of the senior account managers who, with her incredible skills in computer literacy, has become a point of reference when it comes to IT. Much more than that, her input and assistance have been extremely useful for me as I got to learn the importance of digital marketing and computer literacy by observing her work.

  1. A solution provider

Every dream team has a person who always comes up with great ideas, even when not doing it on purpose. She simply can’t help it – she always gets it right. Naomi, another one of our senior account managers, would definitely fit in this category. Equipped with incredible project management skills and great general knowledge, she is always on point when it comes to providing the team with solutions and alternatives. Moreover, her tenacity has become a real inspiration for the entire team.

  1. A super-hero

The super-hero is the team member we all turn to when we are stuck or hit a wall.  The MANGO-OMC superhero would definitely be Gen. Even if she lives in another Province, we all know that after every call with her, everything will always become clearer. Her insightful knowledge about pretty much everything has appeared to be of great importance and has also lead me to conduct further research in order to enhance my general knowledge.

  1. A skeleton

Just like skeletons, in every team, there are always people that are not seen, but yet tremendously contribute to the growth of the team. I would say that Clara is one of them. I have often compared her to a hero in the shadow simply because she is one! Quite reserved, she makes her daily mission to keeps our back and to assist us every time we shout for help. I sincerely cannot imagine the office without her and I believe every dream team would never be one without at least one skeleton!

  1. A good mood reliever

The presence of this type of people in the room always changes the atmosphere. Joyful, vivacious and greatly innovative, good mood relievers are just a must have for every dream team. Phumi would definitely be one of those. Not only is her energy and determination an inspiration, but also, the incredible skills she has of turning a room into a joyful area is worthy of applause. With good mood relievers, the workplace becomes the most pleasant place on earth and the dream team grows together in unity and joy.
