BRIEF AND REQUIREMENTS

MANGO-OMC was tasked with a variety of supportive tasks for the Urban-LEDS project.

ABOUT THE URBAN-LEDS II PROJECT

Human activities in cities contribute to global greenhouse gas emissions. Meeting the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement will require a fundamental transformation of how urban infrastructure and services are planned, delivered and maintained. It will also require effective monitoring, reporting and tracking of performance.

The objective of Urban-LEDS II is to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the promotion of Urban Low Emission Development Strategies (Urban-LEDS) that build resilience to climate change in cities/towns in emerging economies and least developed countries.

The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by ICLEI and UN-Habitat.

COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES

  • Identified, verified and collated a master media list of publications and key contacts that ICELI Africa would use to forge relationships with and share their news with. The lists included: Cross-Africa media, Rwandan media, South African Business Editors, South African News Editors, South African Environment and Inflight Magazines, South African Finance and Markets.
  • Provided extensive spokesperson training for all ICELI Africa staff on interview techniques, how to engage with media and how to interact with politicians and other important stakeholders at events.
  • Conceptualised and developed a training document for all training attendees for future reference.
  • Conceptualised and designed two infographics that: 1) explained to staff members the spectrum of available communication channels available to them for communicating climate change and 2) an infographic on how key cities will be affected by climate change (a graphic that could be emailed or printed in poster format).
