SUSTAINABILITY / SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
UJ’s Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment is one of the most comprehensive faculties in the country, offering a wide range of education options, from diploma to post graduate degree courses.
The UJ Energy Movement programme was established in 2010 to help promote skills development, energy conservation and sustainability through technology innovation with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education.
A group of students in the Engineering Department at the University of Johannesburg took on the challenge of producing the University’s first solar-powered cars and have embarked on a number of national races plus awareness drives.
- Development and implementation of an integrated communication strategy for both the Sasol Solar Challenge in 2014 and the Africa Solar Drive in 2015 (both with a mandate to promote STEM).
- Detailed reporting and measurement of the project success.
- Development of sustained media relations for the campaign durations and post each project.
- Stakeholder and sponsor media relationship management.
